pourquoi.app
Privacy Policy
Last updated: July 9, 2026
This policy explains how the pourquoi.app app (“the app”) and the website pourquoi.app (“the site”) handle information about you. In short: personal content produced by the app (answers, settings, system usage data) stays on your device. Anonymous, optional usage statistics may be shared with Firebase if you accept (see § 2.4). We do not run any application server. If you voluntarily submit an email address on the site (waitlist), that processing is described in § 3.2.
1. Data controller
App and site publisher: Nicolas Carrion, sole proprietorship (trading as Nyko Labs), 430 rue de Moirey, 21850 Saint-Apollinaire, France — SIREN 105 845 069. Contact: contact@pourquoi.app.
2. Data processed by the app
2.1 Data stored locally
The app stores the following exclusively on your device:
- Your answers (chosen reason, date, source: notification, app, Shortcut, overlay).
- Your settings (time window, interval, display preferences, monitored apps).
- Onboarding completion date and metadata related to the local free trial (start, end, paywall display timestamps).
- The status of your active purchases, checked through Apple’s StoreKit (iOS) or Google Play Billing (Android).
On iOS, data is stored via SwiftData and shared between the app and its widget
through an App Group (group.app.pourquoi.shared). On Android, it is
stored locally via a Room database. It is deleted when you uninstall the app.
2.2 Digital usage data (optional)
iOS — Screen Time: if you grant access, the app reads usage data via Apple’s FamilyControls and DeviceActivity frameworks.
Android — Usage Stats: if you grant the Usage Stats permission, the app reads usage data via the dedicated Android APIs.
In both cases, this data is read on the fly to compute the insights shown in “My stats”. It is not sent to any server and is not shared with third parties. You can revoke authorization at any time in system settings (Screen Time on iOS; apps with usage access on Android).
2.3 In-app purchases and subscriptions
Purchases are handled exclusively by Apple (StoreKit 2, iOS) or Google (Play Billing, Android). We collect no card number and no identity information. The app only checks whether an active entitlement is returned by the relevant store.
2.4 App measurement and stability (Firebase)
If you explicitly accept in the app (onboarding or Settings), we use Firebase Analytics and Firebase Crashlytics (Google LLC) to improve pourquoi.app:
- Analytics: anonymous product events (onboarding steps, paywall purchases, screens viewed, answer type — never answer text).
- Crashlytics: crash reports (stack trace, device model, OS and app version) — never your answers or Screen Time / Usage Stats data.
A pseudonymous identifier (install_id) may be linked to these events without
tying them to your Apple or Google account or email. Legal basis: your
consent (single Analytics + Crashlytics toggle, off by default).
Withdrawal: turn off “Anonymous statistics and reports” in app Settings. This
data is not combined with site audience measurement (§ 3.3).
2.5 Newsletter subscription (optional, app)
If you enter your email address in the newsletter form inside the app (onboarding or Settings), it is transmitted to Brevo (see § 3.2) under the same conditions as web sign-ups. Purpose: sending you tips, articles and updates related to pourquoi.app. Legal basis: your consent (explicit opt-in form, confirmed by a double opt-in email). Subscribing is entirely optional; declining or skipping does not affect access to the app. This data is not combined with Firebase analytics (§ 2.4). Rights and withdrawal: unsubscribe link in every email or request via contact@pourquoi.app.
3. Data processed by the site
3.1 Browsing and hosting
The site is static. Without your consent, it drops no audience measurement cookies and no ad trackers. Minimal technical logs (IP address, user agent, timestamp) may be kept temporarily by our hosting provider for security and anti-abuse purposes.
3.2 Waitlist signup (email)
When you submit your email address in the waitlist form, it is sent to Brevo (SAS Brevo, 7 rue de Madrid, 75008 Paris, France — brevo.com), our email and list subscription provider, acting as a processor. Brevo applies appropriate security and compliance measures (see Brevo’s privacy policy).
Purpose: to notify you when the app is available, about meaningful updates, and occasionally other low-noise messages related to pourquoi.app, based on your consent (explicit form submission, and confirmation if double opt-in is enabled). Retention: addresses are kept until you unsubscribe; you may opt out anytime via the link in emails or by writing to contact@pourquoi.app. Rights: access, rectification, erasure, restriction, objection, and portability — contact us as above, or Brevo for data they hold on our behalf, without prejudice to your right to lodge a complaint with your supervisory authority.
3.3 Audience measurement (Google Analytics)
If you accept via the cookie banner, we use Google Analytics 4 (Google Ireland Limited) to measure site traffic: pages viewed, traffic sources, device type, approximate country. This data is anonymized as far as possible and is not linked to data from the mobile apps.
Purpose: understand interest in the site and improve its content. Legal basis: your consent (banner or “Cookie preferences” link in the footer). Retention: per GA4 settings (typically 14 months). Withdrawal: refuse via the banner, reopen “Cookie preferences” to change your mind, or clear Google Analytics cookies in your browser. See Google’s privacy policy.
4. Recipients
Personal app data (answers, settings, system usage) does not leave your device. The only data exchanged is between your device and Apple or Google, as part of their own services (App Store / Google Play, Screen Time or usage statistics, billing). Apple and Google act as independent data controllers in that context; see their respective privacy policies at apple.com/legal/privacy and policies.google.com/privacy.
If you accept app statistics (§ 2.4), Google LLC processes Analytics events and Crashlytics reports on our behalf as a processor.
Email addresses collected through the waitlist are processed by Brevo on our behalf, as described in § 3.2. Site audience data, if you accept it, is processed by Google Analytics on our behalf, as described in § 3.3.
5. Legal basis and retention
Local processing relies on the performance of the service you use. Data stays on your device as long as the app is installed; you can erase it at any time by deleting the app (see “Data deletion”).
6. Your rights
Under the GDPR and applicable laws, you have the rights of access, rectification, erasure, restriction, objection and portability. Personal app data stays on your device: delete the app or adjust system permissions (iOS or Android). For Firebase statistics (§ 2.4), revoke consent in app Settings. For anything else: contact@pourquoi.app.
You can also lodge a complaint with your national data protection authority (in France: the CNIL, cnil.fr).
7. Security
App data is protected by the operating system’s security mechanisms (per-app sandboxing, device encryption when locked).
8. Children
The app is not intended for children under 13 and does not knowingly collect any data from them.
9. Changes
Any material change will be published here with a new update date. Minor edits may be published without separate notice.
