Terms of Use

These Terms of Use (“Terms”) govern the use of the pourquoi.app app (“the app”) and its site pourquoi.app. Using the app or subscribing to a plan constitutes acceptance of these Terms.

1. Publisher

2. Service description

pourquoi.app is a mobile app (iOS and Android) that asks you a question about your phone use, via local notifications, a Shortcut (iOS) or an overlay (Android), and lets you choose a reason. The service runs entirely on your device. There is no blocker, no gamification and no “recap” reminder.

3. Requirements

3.1 iOS

  • iPhone compatible with iOS 26 or later.
  • Apple ID to subscribe to Premium.
  • Optional Screen Time authorization for usage insights.

3.2 Android

  • Device compatible with Android 10 or later.
  • Google Play account to subscribe to Premium.
  • Optional permissions for overlay and usage statistics (Usage Stats).

4. Premium plans

pourquoi.app offers two types of Premium plans: auto-renewable subscriptions (monthly or yearly) and “Lifetime” one-time purchases (non-renewable). Each type comes in an individual or family variant.

4.1 Auto-renewable subscriptions

  • Monthly (Apple product ID app.pourquoi.premium.monthly.solo): duration: 1 month, price: €3.99.
  • Yearly (Apple product ID app.pourquoi.premium.yearly.solo): duration: 1 year, price: €29.99.
  • Monthly Family (Apple product ID app.pourquoi.premium.monthly.family): duration: 1 month, price: €6.99, shareable via Family Sharing (see §4.3).
  • Yearly Family (Apple product ID app.pourquoi.premium.yearly.family): duration: 1 year, price: €49.99, shareable via Family Sharing (see §4.3).

4.2 “Lifetime” one-time purchases (non-renewable)

  • Lifetime (Apple product ID app.pourquoi.premium.lifetime.solo): one-time payment, price: €59.99.
  • Lifetime Family (Apple product ID app.pourquoi.premium.lifetime.family): one-time payment, price: €99.99, shareable via Family Sharing (see §4.3).

“Lifetime” purchases do not renew and are not subject to recurring billing. Premium access remains active as long as the Apple ID associated with the purchase exists and the app remains available on the App Store.

4.3 Family Sharing

Family plans allow you to share Premium access with up to five other members of the Family Sharing group configured on your Apple account (i.e., the organizer plus up to 5 relatives). Individual plans do not allow this sharing. Sharing is handled natively by Apple and follows Apple’s Family Sharing rules.

4.4 Local free trial (7 days)

When you finish onboarding, you get a 7-day free trial with full access to Premium features. This trial is managed locally on your device, starts on your onboarding completion date and requires no credit card. It is offered once per app installation.

After 7 days, without an active subscription, you automatically move to the free tier (§4.5). Subscriptions via the App Store or Google Play include no additional free trial: purchasing during the local trial ends it and activates Premium access immediately under the plan you choose.

4.5 Free tier (after trial)

Without a subscription or active trial, the app remains free to use with:

  • Unlimited questions and answers (notifications, overlay, Shortcut).
  • “In pourquoi.app” stats limited to Today and the last 7 days.
  • Question rhythm fixed at 1 minute (not customizable).
  • Widget and reminders configured during onboarding.

The following require Premium or an active trial:

  • “What it means” insights and link to digital usage (Screen Time on iOS / Usage Stats on Android).
  • 30-day or All time stats.
  • Rhythm card and insights preview on the home screen.
  • Custom rhythm (0 s to 5 min).

4.6 Premium features

Premium (subscription, “Lifetime” purchase or local trial) unlocks full access to insights, all stat periods, customizable rhythm and home-screen elements reserved for subscribers.

4.7 Billing and auto-renewal (subscriptions)

The following clauses apply only to the monthly and yearly plans (§4.1). “Lifetime” purchases (§4.2) are one-time payments and are not subject to any renewal.

iOS (App Store)

  • Payment is charged to your Apple ID account at confirmation of purchase.
  • The subscription automatically renews at the end of each period at the then-current price, unless it is cancelled at least 24 hours before the end of the current period.
  • Renewal is charged to your Apple ID account within 24 hours prior to the end of the current period.

Android (Google Play)

  • Payment is charged to your Google Play account at confirmation of purchase.
  • The subscription automatically renews unless cancelled before the end of the current period, under Google Play billing rules.
  • Product IDs are the same as those listed in §4.1 and §4.2.

4.8 Management and cancellation

iOS: Settings › your name › Subscriptions, or via apps.apple.com/account/subscriptions.

Android: Google Play app › Payments & subscriptions › Subscriptions, or via play.google.com/store/account/subscriptions.

Cancellation takes effect at the end of the current paid period; Premium remains active until that date. “Lifetime” purchases do not need to be cancelled.

4.9 Restore

When changing device or reinstalling, restore access (subscription or “Lifetime” purchase) via the “Restore purchases” button on the subscription screen, using the same Apple ID (iOS) or Google Play account (Android).

4.10 Switching from “Lifetime” to “Lifetime Family”

“Lifetime” purchases (individual or family) are one-time purchases. Apple does not provide an automatic prorated upgrade mechanism between “Lifetime” plans. To switch from the individual plan to the family plan, a new full purchase at the then-current price is required; the previous individual purchase remains active and is not refunded. We therefore recommend choosing the plan that matches your use from the start.

4.11 Android family sharing

Family plans on Android may be shared via the Google Play family library, under Google’s rules. Individual plans do not allow this sharing.

4.12 EULA and store terms

iOS: by downloading the app you accept Apple’s standard End User License Agreement: apple.com/legal/internet-services/itunes/dev/stdeula .

Android: use of the app and in-app purchases are also subject to Google Play terms: play.google.com/about/play-terms.

5. Withdrawal right

As the digital service starts immediately upon confirmation of purchase with your express consent, you acknowledge that your right of withdrawal is waived for amounts already consumed, to the extent permitted by applicable law. Refunds are handled by Apple or Google depending on the platform used and their respective policies.

6. Intellectual property

All elements (software, text, graphics, trademarks) belong to the publisher or their respective owners. No license is granted beyond personal use of the app.

8. Limitation of liability

The app is a tool to help you notice your phone use. It is not a medical, therapeutic or parental-control device. The publisher cannot be held liable for any misuse, or for any dependency on phone use that the app failed to prevent. To the fullest extent permitted by law, the publisher’s liability is limited to the amounts actually received for the subscription over the last twelve months.

9. Service availability

The publisher may evolve, suspend or withdraw all or part of the service, in particular due to incompatibility with new iOS or Android versions. If the service is permanently withdrawn during a paid subscription period, a pro-rata refund may be requested from Apple or Google depending on the platform.

10. Governing law and jurisdiction

These Terms are governed by French law. In case of dispute, you may use conventional mediation or bring the matter before the competent French courts. Consumers residing in the European Union may also use the European Online Dispute Resolution platform: ec.europa.eu/consumers/odr.
